Grovewood House is close to excellent local inns for good food

Bed and Breakfast from just £32 per person per night

Eating out: There are some excellent local inns offering good food including The Steamboat at Carsethorn (1 mile); The Criffel and The New Abbey Arms in New Abbey (5 miles); and The Anchor at Kippford (7 miles). The Cavens Hotel at Kirkbean also offers evening meals as does The Mabie Hotel near Dumfries (reservations are advised in season).

Public transport: There is an hourly bus service to Dalbeattie and Dumfries from Kirkbean.

The seaside: Beaches abound in this area, some sandy and some rocky. The best for children is probably the one at Sandyhills, only 6 1/2 miles from Kirkbean and on the bus route.

AirB&B testimonial: "Our hosts made us very welcome, with extras such as fruit in our room along with a tea tray. Room clean, warm and comfortable. Huge breakfast overseen by Robbie the talking robot. Great fun. Also advised about local places to get an evening meal. Enjoyed our stay." Alan - August 2015
